September is the Month to Reconnect Purpose: Leading with Authenticity

A short week on paper, but a long one emotionally. This month began with a milestone in my family, that is moving my son into his first-year university residence.
I expected tears. Instead, I felt grounded and proud. I saw a young man stepping into resilience, confidence, and growth. What surprised me most was how this transition mirrored my own journey as a leader.
September brought more than a shift in routine; it brought a shift in identity.
As women leaders, especially in STEM, we’re no strangers to transition. Yet too often, we hold space for others’ growth while overlooking our own evolution. This season reminded me that change doesn’t always require preparation, it requires presence.
Leadership Spotlight: Purpose + Authenticity
Authentic leadership isn’t about a perfect plan. It’s about alignment.
When our leadership style reflects our personal values, we create impact with clarity and energy.
But when there’s disconnection between what we value and how we lead, disengagement grows. Research shows that purpose-driven leaders are 50% more engaged (Harvard Business Review).
Authenticity is not a trait, it’s your superpower.
3 Ways to Reconnect with Your Purpose
1. Audit Your Alignment
Take 15 minutes to reflect: Are your daily leadership actions aligned with your core values? Where do you feel a gap? Awareness is the first step toward realignment.
2. Reframe Transitions as Growth
Shifts in career, team structure, or even family roles are not just disruptions—they are opportunities to evolve your leadership identity.
3. Practice Presence over Perfection
You don’t need the perfect moment to reconnect with purpose. Instead, show up fully in the moment—whether it’s a meeting, a tough decision, or a celebration.

You don’t need to brace for change when you trust your adaptability. It’s already in you.
