August is the Month to Embrace Change with Courage & Confidence
August always seems to fly by, and this year is no exception. The first half of my month has been full—working with my wonderful clients, preparing for upcoming speaking engagements and workshops this Fall, and hosting family events. One of the biggest personal milestones is preparing for my son’s move to university in September—a transition for him and for us at home. Combined with returning from a rejuvenating vacation in July, it feels like August is moving at lightning speed.
Transitions, whether in our personal or professional lives, can stir up mixed emotions: excitement, uncertainty, anticipation. It’s a reminder that change, while sometimes uncomfortable, is a natural and essential part of growth.
Turning Transitions into Opportunities
1. Lean Into Courage Stepping into the unknown requires courage. Whether it’s starting a new project, changing roles, or taking on a leadership opportunity, say “yes” even if the path isn’t fully clear. That first step can lead to unexpected breakthroughs.
2. Cultivate a Positive and Learning Mindset A positive outlook isn’t about ignoring challenges, it’s about seeing them as stepping stones. Pair positivity with continuous learning, and you’ll unlock new opportunities even in times of uncertainty.
3. Strengthen Your Resilience Muscle Resilience is built through action. When things don’t go as planned, remind yourself that each challenge is part of your leadership evolution. As my father taught me, “Take things as they come”—adapt, refocus, and move forward.
Personal Reflection: Every “yes” I’ve said to change—from moving to a new country as a teenager, to navigating corporate transformations, to launching my coaching business after 20+ years in ech—has led to growth I couldn’t have predicted. This month, as I watch my son prepare for his own next chapter, I’m reminded again how powerful it is to embrace change with both courage and confidence.
